It's actually gotten worse for us lately. I'm hoping we're still around by the end of the summer or I'm out of a job.

I hear you; and I share your concerns. On the positive side, I was starting to hear a little, scattered and non-specific, about publishers having had less than stellar experiences with off-shore (primarily India) production houses. And I'd been having my best two-year period ever. But then the economy crunched. That said, I still have work coming in--layout work at the moment; and I'm talking a coupla design-and-layout projects. I don't accept $3 per page jobs.

Hi Silvia,
No, I don't own an eReading device other than an iPod Touch. They are simply too expensive for the job that they do. If I do manage to buy one, I will probably get a Sony eReader because it is more open that all of the other devices. These devices need to get down to about $100-150 before they go anywhere, and publishers need to drop the DRM restrictions.

Thanks for the comment!

I love that video. I have my hopes on Plastic Logic. I agree with you, but not everybody who wants an e-reader has one. I want one, definitely, but I can't afford it. I have money, don't take me wrong, but I'm a frugal mother who homeschool her daughters, and we don't even buy things for xmas. The reason why I want one it's because many of the books I use to educate my girls are in the public domain. I also am a voracious reader, but I use the library and friends who have more budget abilities when it comes to reading more varied literature.

You wrote a wonderful article. A couple of months ago I also read your previous one on the Kindle. I did not know you rent the books, versus owning them. I've also profited from your explanation on how publishers work.

Thanks and keep up the great reviews and writings on technology. If you don't have an e-reader I wish you luck with a better product. So cheers to you and to a better e-reader. (I'm thinking maybe some will sell their not wanted ones for a considerable discount, not like now that they sell them used for 'more' than original price, LOL.
