I enjoy Science Fiction and Fantasy, so I buy my eBooks from Baen Books. They sell you non DRM’d books for any device, including an HTML version and an .rtf version. Once you’ve bought a book from them you can download any and all versions of it to install on any and all of your devices. I use a Sony Clie, an iPad, and my MacBookPro, and reaad in the .mobi format on the Clie in mobipocket, the epub format on the iPad in iBooks, and the HTML version on my MacBook Pro.

They also have a free library of non DRM’d books so you can check out their authors and see what you like.

I’ve been buying from them since 2000 when they opened their free library, because I think this is publishing done right. I also buy their hardcovers from time to time (maybe 10 or 11) which also often include a CD of the authors previous works. All non DRM’d. So you can loan them around.

Here is what they think about DRM http://www.baen.com/library/

Enjoy.

I am posting to tell you that I found your blog to be an excellent read, and that I find the different colours you are using to complement the content quite well. Your post on freelance folder is what lead me here to read and post.

I found your post to be very well thought out reasons why the ebook will probably not succeed. I won't be purchasing any sort of ereader till a format is standardized and used across the different devices.

Privacy is also a huge concern because it isn't the manufacturer's business where I am located at an instance of time. And of course, like all things in Canada we will get a crappy overpriced deal compared to the USA.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('119','Brian Cline','I am posting to tell you that I found your blog to be an excellent read, and that I find the different colours you are using to complement the content quite well.
I hear you; and I share your concerns. On the positive side, I was starting to hear a little, scattered and non-specific, about publishers having had less than stellar experiences with off-shore (primarily India) production houses. And I'd been having my best two-year period ever. But then the economy crunched. That said, I still have work coming in--layout work at the moment; and I'm talking a coupla design-and-layout projects. I don't accept $3 per page jobs.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('117','Bruce','I hear you; and I share your concerns.
